We’ve been thinking a lot about the little things that we can do every day to make a difference. Maybe it’s not earthshattering, but over time, it can add up to a lot. One easy change for us was the lightbulb for a new product idea. We were thinking about how to decrease the amount of trash we created, after reading about all these people that were trying to live an almost zero-waste existence. By the way, most of these people seemed to be single with no young children in sight. In searching for a realistic, easy change we could make, we came across the data that if everyone used one less disposable napkin a day, more than a billion pounds of disposable napkins would be saved from landfills every year. Clearly, usingĀ cloth napkins could save a lot of trees. Fortunately for us, cloth napkins are an easy change to make, not requiring us to go to extremes such as sacrificing toilet paper. We’ve been using our cloth napkins at home and out and about in our lunchboxes and snack bags. The organic cotton, cloth napkins haveĀ also been a big hit as hostess gifts and party favors (people appreciate them more than the little plastic toys that usually goes home with the kids). Maybe mika&bu won’t be the key to solving global warming, but if we can get a few people every week to change one little habit, we can help make a difference.
One small step for man…
October 20, 2009Halloween is coming!
May 13, 2009Do you get the feeling that the holidays are coming on so fast in the stores? For example, we were at the local Costco, and they had Halloween costumes in August. It was still September, and I saw the Christmas, Hanukkah and other holiday decorations up already. It’s as though Halloween was over and done with by September. This is all before we’ve been able to celebrate Halloween and go trick or treating at the end of October. Luckily at mika&bu, we decided not to skip Halloween. We’re offering a special on our petite bags, which is a great size to use for trick or treating, especially if you don’t want your child’s bag to be overflowing with too much candy. Our petite bags are normally one for $12, but now they’re 2 for $16 if you use the code “Halloween” at checkout. The best thing is that after Halloween is over, you can use our reusable petite bags for snacks, books, toys, or whatever you need to tote around town. It’s not just for Halloween. You can have fun and be good to the environment. Be green with some good family fun!
